Car Pulled from Clear Lake Stolen Over 25 Years Ago

A car pulled from Clear Lake earlier this month was stolen over 25 years ago.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office recovered the submerged 1982 Oldsmobile Firenza from the water on August 9th. The vehicle was unoccupied and contained several items used for fishing. An investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported to the Mason City Police Department in February of 1996.

The owner of the car said it was stolen from a business parking lot in Mason City while the owner was inside the business. The vehicle was unlocked and running at the time it was stolen. The owner confirmed the car had never been located until it was recovered from Clear Lake by an underwater recovery team.

The investigation continues, but no criminal charges are anticipated.
