North Iowa Man Apprehended After Vehicle Pursuit

A north Iowa man was arrested after leading law enforcement on a pursuit late Tuesday (08.17) night.

The Oelwein Police Department says they received a call shortly before 11 p.m. to investigate a vehicle with Minnesota license plates that had driven through a couple of yards, and that the suspect had stopped at the Casey’s c-store. An officer attempted to contact the occupant of the vehicle, but the vehicle took off and a pursuit ensued.

The chase would end in a corn field outside of Maynard, but not until the vehicle’s occupant attempted to flee on foot. 34-year-old Michael Lopez of Postville was subsequently apprehended and charged with eluding, a class D felony; possession of marijuana first offense, a serious misdemeanor; driving while license suspended and reckless driving, both simple misdemeanors, and several traffic violations. Other charges may follow.

The Fayette Co Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol assisted in the arrest of Lopez.
