Relocating The Learning Center (TLC) child care operation into the former Charles City Middle School building could be completed by next spring.
TLC’s current location on North Jackson Street can host up to 93 children at one time, but the relocating in the former school building on North Grand Avenue could accommodate upwards of 165 kids. TLC Director Pam Ost recently told the Charles City School Board that early indications are they shouldn’t have trouble filling those slots.
Levi Architecture of Cedar Falls will conduct the renovation project. Owner Dan Levi says TLC’s move, with the cooperation of Charles City Schools, helps address a real problem area.
Ost and Levi say the school board should have drawings to review in October, with the hope of seeking bids for the project in November. If construction can begin shortly after, final completion is targeted for May of 2022.
