Law enforcement will have an increased presence on Iowa roads throughout this Labor Day weekend as part of the latest special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP), “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”.
Cracking down on drunk driving is the main focus for the Iowa State Patrol, local police and county sheriff’s departments, but Chickasaw County Sheriff Marty Hemann says they’re also watching for distracted drivers.
Hemann says the effort to keep roads safe this holiday weekend will include extra officers on patrol.
Hemann also advises motorists to watch their speed, buckle up, utilize a designated driver when needed and be alert at rural intersections where your view can be obscured by tall standing corn.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety says six people died on the state’s roadways Labor Day weekend in 2019.
