Proceed with Caution During Holiday Boating in North Iowa Following Floods

Boaters looking to get out on the rivers during the Labor Day weekend are being urged to proceed with caution in the wake of recent flooding.

Iowa DNR Conservation Officer for Floyd and Mitchell counties, Jacob Fulk, says that while river levels have been dropping, the extra water from last weekend’s torrential rains have left their marks.

Fulk adds that seeing the debris in the water is also tough.

Fulk also cautions boaters that debris not evident today could reveal itself tomorrow, so don’t assume that a previous spot is going to be clear sailing from one day to the next.

Fulk reminds all boaters that there must be a lifejacket available for every individual on your vessel and that officers will also be on the lookout for drunk boat drivers.
