Repaving 4th Avenue in Charles City is getting closer to reality.
Crews have been preparing the road, which is part of Highway 18 through town, to lay down the new surface for several months. Mayor Dean Andrews says that appears to be near, now that the street has been “milled down.”
Andrews says completion of the repaving project will be a welcome change for motorists.
The highway’s path goes by Lincoln Elementary School in Charles City and the construction has meant adjustments to the school district’s bus routes in the early stages of the new school year.
The resurfacing of Highway 18 will also extend east of Charles City near the Northeast Iowa Regional Airport. The project has been slated for completion by late October.
