A north Iowa sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after being involved in a shooting Saturday night.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says they took a report of an alleged domestic assault in Thompson just after 7 p.m. The deputy arrived on the scene and an investigation determined the call was a ruse to lure law enforcement to the location. An encounter at the scene resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with the sheriff’s office policy. The sheriff’s press release did not indicate if there were any injuries in the incident.
The Hancock and Kossuth county sheriff’s offices, Lake Mills, Forest City, Britt and Garner police departments, Iowa State Patrol, Thompson and Buffalo Center fire departments, Forest City Ambulance Service, and MercyOne AirMed also assisted at the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 641-585-2828. More information is expected to be released Monday.
