North Butler Bond Referendums Fail to Pass

Two bond issues that would have funded about $19.3 million in facility improvements and upgrades for the North Butler School District were soundly defeated Tuesday.

If both measures had been approved, about two-thirds of the funds were targeted to cover improvements to classrooms and facilities in Allison and Greene. The other third would’ve gone towards a new competition facility for Bearcats’ athletic teams and students in Greene.

Preliminary results show Public Measure CO for the $19.3 million received just over 20% of the yes votes versus almost 80% no ballots. Public Measure CP, which would’ve authorized an annual tax levy to pay for the bond, saw similar yes and no vote totals.

Superintendent Mark Olmstead said in a statement to district families and staff, “We learned that the solutions presented fell short of the 60 percent needed to be approved. As a result, the district will not move forward with the proposed facility improvement projects at this time. Unfortunately, we know the district’s needs will not go away. The board will immediately begin work to evaluate and find alternative solutions to our facility needs so that we can continue to provide the high-quality educational experience our students, families, and community have come to expect from North Butler schools.”

In other results Tuesday, Heather Shook was voted in to fill a vacancy on the North Butler School Board.
