A Cresco man has been arrested for sexually abusing a minor.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Steven Shipman was arrested Wednesday following an incident at Shipman’s residence over the Labor Day weekend, during which he
allegedly sexually abused a 13-year-old. Shipman has been charged with sexual abuse in the third degree and sexual exploitation of a minor, both Class C felonies; as well as dissemination and exhibition of obscene material to a minor, a serious misdemeanor.
A search warrant for Shipman’s residence was obtained and executed, resulting in investigators seizing materials related to this case. He is currently held in the Howard County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
If convicted on all three counts, Shipman could face up to 21 years in prison and be required to register on The Iowa Sex Offender Registry.
The investigation continues and more charges are possible.
