Charles City Depot Move Seeks Additional Funding

Efforts to relocate the historic Milwaukee Railroad Depot in Charles City are in need of additional funding.

In a Facebook post, American Passenger Train History Museum, which is coordinating the project, says a GoFundMe account has been established to help cover some additional costs. The museum was forced to find a new contractor to build a new foundation for the 1912 building’s new home about two blocks south of its present location on North Grand Avenue, after the original contractor backed out less than a week before they were to begin pouring concrete and organizers had to find a replacement. In late August, Quality Concrete of Riceville took over building the new foundation, which has since been poured and is in the process of drying and curing in advance of the relocation.

The museum is looking to raise $10,000 to supplement the cost increases due to the contractor issues. The post adds that should there be any more cost changes, this fundraising campaign will help cover those, too. If there are additional funds left once Phase 1 (Moving) of the Depot Project is finished, those funds will be transferred to Phase 2 (Renovation) of the project. The “Save the Depot” campaign already raised over $350,000 to make the move possible.

If you would like to donate, either use the link to the GoFundMe Page or send a check directly to the American Passenger Train History Museum at P.O. Box 683, Charles City, Iowa 50616.
