A Charles City man charged in the death of his three-and-a-half-month-old son two years ago will wait at least four more months before standing trial due coronavirus safety concerns.
26-year-old Shane Morris faces first degree murder and child endangerment charges for his alleged involvement in the infant’s death. Xander Morris was taken to Floyd County Medical Center in Charles Cityon August 3, 2019 for treatment of injuries while in the care of his father; then was transported to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where he died August 4. An autopsy on August 5th indicated the child died from blunt force trauma to the head and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The trial for Shane Morris was to begin about two weeks ago, but court records show a continuance to January 24, 2022, was issued because “several individuals necessary for the trial have been exposed to COVID-19.”
