Substitute teachers in the Charles City School District received a pay raise this week.
At their regular meeting Monday, the school board approved the increased compensation figures presented by Director of Finance Evan Marten, including a new sub base pay rate of $125 a day.
The approved recommendations come after a study by the district’s Substitute Teacher Task Force that showed Charles City’s pay for subs was lower than half of the other schools in the area. Superintendent Mike Fisher says COVID-19 has also had an impact on their pool of available subs.
The new $125-a-day pay rate for substitute teachers is retroactive to the start of the school year, while the $500 30-day cash bonus goes into effect moving forward.
