Chickasaw County will promote from within to tab an interim county engineer.
The last day for current County Engineer Dusty Rolando is Friday after he submitted his resignation to the Board of Supervisors on Monday in the wake of an OWI charge over two weeks ago. He was also convicted of OWI in October 2019.
Assistant Engineer Roman Lensing will serve as the interim replacement and will move from an hourly wage to a salary of $100,000 a year. Lensing has been with the department for eight years.
Lensing will not be a shared county engineer with Floyd County, as Rolando has been the last 20 years. Rolando’s last day for Floyd County is Friday as well after submitting his emotional resignation at the supervisors regular meeting Tuesday.
While Rolando is resigning, hiring him on a temporary contract is an option that could be explored by Supervisor Roy Schwickerath and his fellow board members.
Floyd County supervisors did not name an interim county engineer. They have scheduled a special meeting for Monday morning at 9 a.m. to discuss the position more and possibly make a personnel decision.
