House Fire Displaces Charles City Family

A house fire last week has displaced a rural Charles City family.

The Charles City Fire Department says they were called to a home about one mile north of Charles City at about noon Wednesday, September 29, after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the residence.  When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the eaves and vents. The fire was quickly knocked down with most of the fire damage contained to the kitchen area.

Smoke damage to much of the home made the house of Jared and Alyssa Nauman unlivable. No one was home at the time of the fire, but three canines were rescued, resuscitated and then transported to a veterinarian for further evaluation.

The fire remains under investigation, but is considered accidental in nature.  The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Floyd and Colwell Fire departments, as well as AMR Ambulance, Floyd County Search and Rescue, and Floyd County’s 911 communication center also assisted with the incident.

In the following few days after the initial fire, the CCFD as well as Floyd and Colwell Fire Departments conducted overhaul on some hot spots that flared up.

A meal train account has been established on the meal train website to help provide the family with meals during this difficult time.
