The historic Milwaukee Railroad depot has been positioned for its new home in Charles City.
The 1912 building was parked over the weekend at the corner of 11th Avenue and Grand Avenue. Monday, Thein Structural Moving of Clara City, Minnesota moved the building over it’s new foundation. The American Passenger Train History Museum’s Bob Moen says they were fortunate to not be postponed by rain, which would’ve hampered MidAmerican Energy’s ability to raise power lines high enough to maneuver the building off the street.
Moen says while the depot is over it’s new foundation, it won’t get set down just yet.
Moen says it’ll still be at least two weeks before the depot will finally come to rest in place.
