For now, Floyd and Chickasaw counties will go their separate ways with their County Engineer position.
The counties had an arrangement for some 20 years to share a county engineer, but that ended with the resignation of Dusty Rolando from both counties effective October 1. The two Boards of Supervisors discussed the future of the position via teleconference Monday morning.
Chickasaw County initially named Assistant County Engineer Roman Lensing to the post on an interim basis, but Monday morning gave him the position on a permanent full-time basis. Since Lensing will not be a shared engineer, Floyd County Board Chair Linda Tjaden said they’ll explore their own replacement.
Despite the split direction, Chickasaw County Board Chair Rick Holthaus added that having the counties share an engineer down the road isn’t out of the question.
Last week, Floyd County supervisors established an interim county engineer plan that includes contracting for civil engineering services as needed with Scott Sweet of WHKS Engineering Services of Mason City, with county engineering secondary roads and office personnel reporting needs and issues to Supervisor Doug Kamm.
