Construction of a new Avenue of the Saints interchange at Floyd is about a month into the project.
Field Services Coordinator for the District Two office of the Iowa DOT, Pete Hjelmstad, says work has gotten off to a good start.
Hjelmstad says crews benefitted from dry weather for much of September, but he also knows there’s a long way to go.
Hjelmstad says the traffic pattern through the area was slated to move from the outside to the inside lanes this week, but has been postponed due to a shortage of available workers for the project’s contractor, Cedar Valley Corporation of Waterloo.
Hjelmstad says that means the highway will have two lanes in each direction until the spring, when traffic is moved to a head-to-head pattern in the westbound lanes. However, there may be outside lane closures yet this fall if the contractor finishes up other jobs and the weather allows them to do more work on the interchange.
The $19.6 million road project is targeted for a Fall 2023 completion.
