If you plan on casting an absentee ballot for the November 2nd elections, your deadline to request a ballot by mail is almost here.
Chickasaw County Auditor Stephanie Mashek says requests to receive an absentee ballot by mail must be received by 5 p.m. this Monday.
Mashek adds that while the deadline to request an absentee ballot via mail is Monday, it doen’tt mean the end of your opportunity to vote via absentee ballot.
Under Iowa’s new voting laws passed earlier this year, voters now have 70 days prior to the election to seek an absentee ballot instead of the previous 120-day window. The new law also prevents county auditors from sending out absentee ballast unsolicited.
In the 2020 election last November, which attracted record-high voter turnout, about one million of the state’s 1.7 million votes cast were absentee ballots.
