Charles City Candidate Forums Still Accepting Questions

The public is invited to submit their questions for two candidate forums this week in Charles City.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsoring the forums. Wednesday night’s session from 7 to 8 p.m. features Charles City mayoral candidates, incumbent Dean Andrews against challenged Richard Severin, plus candidates Patrick Lumley and incumbent DeLaine Freeseman running for the two open seats on the City Council.

Thursday night’s forum from 7 to 9 p.m. features six candidates vying for three seats on the Charles City School Board. Current Board President Josh Mack is the lone incumbent seeking re-election, along with Kathryn Fox, Claire Jung, Lori Otto, David Schrodt and Staci Taylor also running.

AAUW’s Anna Burnham says candidates both nights will gather at the NIACC Center, but the public will have to watch virtually.

Burnham adds that voters can still participate in the forum by submitting their questions to the Chamber of Commerce by 5 p.m. Tuesday, but a new email option is also available.

The cutoff for email questions is 7:30 p.m. for each night of the two forums, which can be viewed on Facebook Live through the Chamber’s Facebook page at Chuck Town: Charles City, Iowa. Rebroadcasts will be also be available on the Public Access Network website at
