Good Sportsmanship Takes North Iowa Football Players to St. Louis

Good sportsmanship between opposing north Iowa high school football players is taking them to St. Louis.

During the football game between Charles City and New Hampton September 3rd, a photo of the Comets’ Mario Hoefer helping the Chickasaws’ Carter Steinlage stretching after Steinlage’s leg cramped up on the field of play went viral. Last month, it garnered both Hoefer and Steinlage a joint interview on national television with ABC’s “Good Morning America 3.”

On November 20th, Hoefer and Steinlage will be honored in St. Louis during the 2021 Musial Awards, which celebrates sportsmanship in America.  The live ceremony and presentations will also be recorded to air on CBS on Christmas Day.

The sportsmanship awards honor beloved Cardinals’ baseball legend and hall of famer Stan Musial. They are coordinated by the St. Louis Sports Commission which will cover air travel, hotel accommodations and ground transportation for Hoefer, Steinlage, and their parents.
