While waiting for national approval of booster shots for those who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID vaccines, local health officials also continue to promote getting shots into the arms of the unvaccinated.
Floyd County Public Health Administrator Gail Arjes says now’s a good time to start the vaccination process and be protected in advance of holiday gatherings.
Arjes says the majority of new positive COVID cases in the county continue to be people who have not yet been vaccinated, contributing to a steady, but still-too-high positivity rate.
Arjes adds that the percentage of those eligible to receive the COVID vaccinations who have been vaccinated continues a slow rise. According to the latest data from the CDC, just over 59% of Floyd County adults 18 and older have been vaccinated.
