Charles City School Board Candidates Make Their Pitches

The six candidates vying for three seats on the Charles City School Board met in a special forum Thursday night hosted by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Chamber of Commerce.

The forum at the NIACC Center in Charles City had no public audience present due to COVID safety concerns. Candidate Dr. David Schrodt could not attend, having COVID himself, so his opening statement was read by AAUW moderator Toni Noah. A father of 10, Schrodt noted the primary job of a school board member is the education of young people.

The remaining candidates went in alphabetical order with Kathryn Fox saying she wants to help students reach their full potential.

Claire Jung offered four bullet points for her board candidacy.

Current School Board President Josh Mack is the only incumbent seeking re-election.

Lori Otto says she wants to draw from her experience having a daughter who’s a junior in the school district.

Staci Taylor says being on the school board would be another reason she enjoys being a part of Charles City.

The candidates spent the rest of the forum answering questions submitted from the public.  The Charles City School Board elections are November 2.
