Efforts to create additional housing opportunities in Charles City are showing signs of progress.
City Administrator Steve Diers says among the projects nearing completion is the downtown Union House development.
Diers says remodeling of a portion of the former middle school building on North Grand Avenue could start in late November and result in about 40 new apartments. The City’s Parkside Development project with Crown Point Builders consisting of 18 duplexes and six single family homes is also progressing towards completion.
Diers says, unfortunately, construction of the new Birkwood Village Senior Living Center near Floyd County Medical Center, estimated to cost about $13 million, has not yet begun.
Diers adds that the City also continues to look at additional opportunities to make more single-family housing available.
