Last Public Tours of New Floyd County Law Enforcement Center Completed

The public had its last chance Saturday to get an inside look at the new Floyd County Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Charles City.

Officials hosted a two-hour open house of the facility, which Floyd County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Pat Shirley says is very close to being ready for operation.

Shirley says no date has been set for moving the inmates from the fourth floor of the courthouse to the new LEC.

Shirley estimates over 400 people attended the open house, with many impressed by how big the new facility is, how it utilizes almost every inch of space, and that jailers do all the cooking.

The open house was the last of the public tours of the LEC so construction can be finished and staff can be trained before the inmates can be moved in.
