Charles City Dairy Queen Thief Gets Probation

The man accused of breaking into the Charles City Dairy Queen not once, but twice this past summer will avoid extended jail time[.

33-year-old Rene Hernandez of Charles City was arrested by Charles City Police after he broke into the restaurant on South Grand Avenue on back-to-back nights, August 23rd and 24th. Authorities say Hernandez tore the roof vent off the DQ to gain access into the building.

Hernandez is accused of stealing about $3,000 in cash and checkbooks by going through register drawers and money bags. He also took over $60 in rolls of coins.

Hernandez has been sentenced to three to five years of supervised probation and ordered to pay restitution to the restaurant.
