Charles City Schools Investigate Teachers Over Possible Inappropriate Language in Classroom

Charles City School District officials are investigating whether two Middle School teachers may have used teaching materials involving inappropriate language in the classroom.

The teachers are alleged to have read a story containing vulgar and offensive words to eighth grade students in multiple classrooms throughout the day on Wednesday, November 10th. Middle School Principal Joe Taylor says as soon as school officials were made aware of the situation, they hit the “pause button” by placing the teachers on administrative leave.

Taylor says their due process investigation included fact finding interviews with the teachers as well as other staff members, and, of course, students.

Taylor says addressing the issue included making phone calls to the parents of every single student that may have been impacted by the situation, which was about 120 students in all.

Taylor says school officials, legal counsel and the teacher’s union have been in conservation as to any disciplinary action, if it is deemed necessary.

The matter is also expected to be addressed during a special School Board meeting this Monday at noon.
