Halftime: Michigan 14 Iowa 3

After Iowa held Michigan to a three and out on the first possession of the game the Hawkeyes were able to drive into the Michigan red zone. The Hawks nearly scored on a play action pass to Monte Pottebaum, who’s feet got twisted and he feel causing an overthrow. The ensuing Caleb Shudak field goal was missed wide right.  Michigan took over at the 20 yard line and after gaining a first down it was Blake Corum who took a handoff 67 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Iowa was able to answer with a drive of their own, taking to the 5 yard line before stalling and settling for a field goal. That made the score 14-3 in favor of the Wolverines. It was Iowa’s Jack Campbell who came up with an interception to give the Hawks the ball back and stem the ensuing Michigan drive.

It became a game of field position, with Iowa pinning Michigan deep in it’s own territory multiple times in the 2nd quarter, but when they had short fields they were not able to capitalize. Penalties hindered Iowa’s offense on multiple drives and they were only able to must 40 yards of total offense in the second quarter. The Hawkeye defense, on the other hand, was able to buckle down and hold Michigan to a mere 53 yards of total offense, largely in part to Tory Taylor’s punting.  At halftime the score is 14-3. Iowa will receive the second half kickoff.
