North Iowa could be in line for it’s first big snowfall this season on Friday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in LaCrosse has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Friday afternoon into Friday night for Floyd, Chickasaw, Howard, Mitchell, Winneshiek and Allamakee counties. The NWS in Des Moines has issued the same alert for Cerro Gordo, Worth, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, and Winnebago counties. The watch area also extends into southeast Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin.
Forecasts indicate four to eight inches of snow accumulation is possible across the region and could make travel very difficult. Increasing northwest winds Friday afternoon and evening could also lead to low visibility, blowing snow and hazardous travel conditions, especially for the evening commute. Lighter snowfall amounts are expected south of our area.
