Iowa’s second shotgun deer hunting season begins Saturday and continues through December 19th.
DNR Conservation Officer for Chickasaw and Howard counties, Marc Waterlander, reminds hunters to know the “rules of the road” when it comes to firing your gun.
Waterlander adds that hunters also need to make sure they have permission to hunt on land that’s not theirs.
Iowa’s first shotgun deer hunting season closed Wednesday with one fatality when a hunter was accidentally shot and killed while hunting last Saturday (12.04) in Marion County.
Waterlander says when hunting in a group, be sure to be in constant communication with your fellow hunters on everyone’s position in the field to reduce the risk of a shooting accident. He also reminds hunters that Iowa law requires wearing clothing in solid blaze orange color, such as a vest, jacket, coat, sweatshirt, sweater, shirt or coveralls.
