Mason City Police Investigate Friday Afternoon Shooting

One person was injured in a Friday afternoon shooting in Mason City.

The Mason City Police Department says they were summoned to the emergency room of MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center just after 3:30 p.m. to investigate a person who came in for treatment of a gunshot wound. Officers arrived and found that the shooting victim did not sustain life threatening  injuries.  

Authorities determined that the shooting had occurred in the 400 block of 1st Street NE while the injured victim was a passenger in a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle immediately drove to the hospital to get the passenger treatment. 

MCPD says an investigation was made at the scene of the shooting and while the driver of the vehicle is fully cooperating with our  investigation, the injured party is not cooperating at the time of this press release. 

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Mason City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, via telephone at 641- 421-3636. Information can also be shared with North Iowa Crime Stoppers.
