CThe Charles City School District starts Winter Break one day early today (12.22) for students, but teachers will be at work doing final assessments and grades to wrap up the first semester.
Today’s extra day of holiday vacation for students is a day for catching up for teachers who have been stretched thin having to cover more than their regular classes due to an ongoing shortage of substitute teachers. Superintendent Mike Fisher says many teachers have considered this year more challenging than COVID in the 2020-21 school year.
Fisher commends the teachers hard work, which has paid off in higher test and achievement scores as evidenced by the recent Iowa School Performance Profiles that shows all of the district’s four schools have moved up out of “needs improvement” status to “acceptable.”
Fisher admits there’s more work to be done, but they’ll be aggressive in making those improvements.
Classes resume for Charles City students January 4th.
