Two free Christmas meals are being offered this weekend in the Charles City community.
The Charles City FFA, Messiah’s Food Pantry and the Floyd County Extension Service are hosting a dine-in Christmas Eve lunch at the Youth Enrichment Center on the Floyd County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday (Dec. 24).
Charles City High School Ag Education Teacher and FFA advisor Bret Spurgin says, “This meal is free of charge and will include smoked pork loin provided by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.”
There are still a few meals available and can be reserved by calling the Floyd County office of ISU Extension. Volunteers are also still welcome by contacting the Charles City FFA through their Facebook page.
Transportation also available to people who need a ride to and from the fairgrounds. Pickup spots and times are:

CC Cares is sponsoring a Christmas Day meal of soup, sandwich and dessert Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with drive-thru pickup and delivery available by calling 641-330-5441 by noon Friday.
CC Cares founder Kim Watkins says providing the Christmas meal was a natural progression from their annual Thanksgiving dinner.
Watkins says that led to the Holiday Cheer program as well as involvement with the Charles City Police bike rodeo and back-to-school backpack programs. You can learn more on the CC Cares Facebook page.
