Major League Baseball pitcher and Iowa native Michael Wacha will be signing autographs in Elma tonight (12.22).
Wacha’s appearance at the Blue Bird Tavern is a fundraiser for the Elma Ambulance Project, a joint effort between Regional HealthServices of Howard County and the City of Elma to bring ambulance services to the area. The project would include providing ambulance and full-time staff to be housed in the Elma Fire Station, which would need to be renovated to accommodate ambulance service and become the Elma Emergency Services Building.
Wacha will begin signing autographs starting at 6 p.m. tonight with all donations received will be put towards the project. He’s expected to sign autographs as long as people keep coming into the Blue Bird.
Wacha, who signed a one-year contract for a reported $7 million with the Red Sox in November, began his major league career in 2013, helping the Cardinals reach the World Series that season; which, ironically St. Louis lost to the Red Sox.
