Most area north Iowa counties showed a decline in the number of new positive COVID cases this week when compared to the week prior.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), Chickasaw County had 48 new COVID cases for the week ending Tuesday, December 21st. That’s down from 70 a week earlier and reverses a trend of increasing numbers over the last month.
Floyd County remained steady with 34 new positive COVID cases this week, which was the same as the week before. Winneshiek was the lone county experiencing an increase in new cases this week with 80, a jump up from 54 the previous week.
Other counties showing declines in new positive COVID cases for the week ending Tuesday, December 21st, are Cerro Gordo with 98, down from 125 a week earlier; Bremer with 72, down from 85; Fayette with 61, down from 67; Butler with 36, down from 48; Howard with 34, down from 40; Mitchell with 16, down from 31; Franklin with 15, down from 29; and Worth County, with the fewest new cases this week of nine, a drop from 12 the week before.
