Prepare Your Vehicle for Winter Driving in North Iowa

Winter driving skills are expected be tested again this week in north Iowa.

Some roads could be slick Monday morning from a wintry mix Sunday night that included some freezing rain and snow with more snow and freezing rain in the forecast for Tuesday. Trooper Tom Williams, with the Cedar Falls office of the Iowa State Patrol, says before you venture out for any winter travel, make sure your vehicle is ready for the elements.

Williams also reminds motorists to carry extra hats, gloves, and blankets in your vehicle, along with a winter survival kit including water, flashlight, phone charger and snacks. 

Williams adds that when you are on the road in inclement winter weather, slow down, increase your following distance with the vehicle in front of you, and allow more time to stop your vehicle, even if you have four-wheel drive.
