After receiving only one application by the original deadline, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors will extend their search for a new County Engineer.
The County had hoped to find a replacement for former county Engineer Dusty Rolando by December 31st, but only one person applied by the initial December 6th deadline. After which, Supervisor Doug Kamm noted that the lone applicant did not have the Professional Engineer experience they would prefer.
At Tuesday’s regular board meeting, supervisors voted to establish a new deadline for applications of March 1st. However, if they find the right candidate before then, the search could be ended. In the meantime, the County will extend its temporary contract with Scott Sweet of WHKS Engineering of Mason City to provide consultation services. Sweet told the board that he’s been averaging about five hours per week for services to the County.
Rolando resigned his position earlier this fall following his second OWI arrest. He had been the shared County Engineer for Floyd and Chickasaw counties for 20 years. Rolando recently agreed to a short-term contract with Floyd County to help with the secondary roads budgeting process.
Chickasaw County promoted Assistant County Engineer Roman Lensing to replace Rolando, but only to be County Engineer for Chickasaw County, which is accepting applications through Friday, January 7th to find a new assistant engineer.
