Rudd Library Begins Recovery from December Tornado

Their building may be gone, but you can still check out books from the Rudd Public Library.
The library was destroyed by the EF1 tornado that hit Rudd the night of December 15th. Library Director Shelly Sharp says seeing the unbelievable devastation the next morning was very emotional.
Sharp says they’re trying to determine which books and materials are still salvageable and working with the Iowa Library Association to estimate the value of the books lost. She adds that restocking the shelves will take time, but donations of books now is not necessary.
Sharp says the best way to help is with monetary donations. First Security Bank has established the Rudd Public Library Relief Fund and a former childhood patron of the library, Kelly Leaman, has set up a GoFundMe account with a goal of $10,000. Almost $8,500 has already been raised.
Sharp says they have established a temporary library at Rudd City Hall and patrons are asked to follow the library’s Facebook page for the latest developments.
