Retirements of Longtime Charles City School Bus Drivers Leaves Big Shoes, Seats to Fill

When school buses headed out Tuesday to transport kids to Charles City schools in their return from Winter Break, the routes of two longtime district bus drivers will have new employees in the driver seats.

Betty Flick and Bonnie Lore both retired in December after 48 and 44 years respectively driving Charles City school buses. Flick says she got her start almost five decades ago out of necessity and convenience.

Lore says she became a bus driver after encouragement from family members.

Both Lore and Flick say they’ll miss the kids most of all, along with a lot of hugs from the children. Neither will miss driving a school bus during the Iowa winters.
