In the wake of the holiday season, several north Iowa counties saw the number of new positive COVID cases more than double this week when compared to the week prior.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), Floyd County recorded 54 new COVID cases for the seven-day reporting period ending Tuesday, January 4th. That was up more than double from 17 the previous week. Chickasaw County also saw a better-than-double increase with 67 cases this week after having 27 a week prior.
Cerro Gordo County saw a spike with 174 new positive COVID cases this week, twice that of the 87 of a week earlier. Fayette County more than doubled their number of new cases with 107 this week, up from 58 the week prior. Worth County jumped from 11 cases last week to 26 this week.
Also seeing increases were Bremer County with 108 new COVID cases this week, up from 76; Mitchell County with 39, up from 20; Butler County with 39, up from 35; Franklin County with 36, up from 27; and Howard County with 25, up from 20.
Winneshiek County was the only county to see a decline in new positive COVID cases for the seven-day reporting period ending Tuesday, January4th, with 68, down from 75 the previous week.
