Funeral Services for Chickasaw County Supervisor Holthaus Friday

Funeral services for Chickasaw County Supervisor Rick Holthaus will be held Friday in Alta Vista.
The 62-year-old Holthaus passed away Sunday after a battle with illness. He was elected to the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors in November 2020, also serving last year as the board chair.
Supervisor Matt Kuhn, elected this week to take the chair, says he had the privilege of working on the board with Holthaus for only one year, but knew him all his life.
New Hampton Mayor Bobby Schwickerath says he was honored to work with Holthaus on both city- and county-wide issues, but also knew his family.
The four-year term of Holthaus is scheduled to run through December 31st, 2024. According to Chickasaw County Auditor Stephanie Mashek, the County Treasurer, Recorder, and Auditor may appoint someone who resides in District 1 to take over his seat, or they could call for a special election instead to determine his replacement. She adds that if the publication of the intention to appoint is made, the public could petition the Auditor’s office for a special election 14 days AFTER the publication.
The Conway-Markham Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements for Holthaus. Details are available on the obituary page of our station website.
