Avis Seelye, 91, Charles City

Avis Seelye, 91, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Avis Seelye will be held at 1:30p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Avis Jean (Bluhm) Seelye, the daughter of William and Daisy (Law) Bluhm, was born on May 20, 1930 in Charles City. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1948. On August 1, 1948, Avis was united in marriage to Harold Seelye in Charles City. To this union, the couple had four sons: Allan, Richard, Steven, and Martin.

Avis was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Degree of Honor. She loved doing jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader. She was also a very crafty person and enjoyed doing needlework and ceramics.

Living family members include her son, Allan (Connie Rose) Seelye of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren: James Seelye, Stacy Roads, Renae (Chris) Mason, and Steven Seelye, Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathy Seelye; brother, Roger (Phyllis) Bluhm of Waverly; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sons: Richard, Steven, and Martin; and brothers: William, Allan, and Don.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice in memory of Avis.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
