Renovations to the Floyd County Courthouse in Charles City continue, but at a slower pace than officials would like.
Improvements and upgrades are slated for every floor of the building, but progress has been slowed by some contractors holding up their work while waiting for other jobs to be completed first. Adjustments to renovation plans have also been necessary.
At their regular meeting Monday morning, Supervisor Linda Tjaden said she wants to be sure the board is on the same page when it comes to those changes.
Supervisor Roy Schwickerath cautioned against making too many reductions that could affect the operations of the various county departments.
The renovations are part of the overall project that also includes building the new Floyd County Law Enforcement Center (LEC). Brian Schindelar is the site superintendent for the Samuels Group which is overseeing the project. He told the board the sheriff’s department could start moving their offices into the LEC this week, but still no date has been established to begin moving inmates from the jail on the fourth floor of the courthouse into the LEC.
