New Hampton Couple Purchases Winning $2 Million Powerball Ticket

A New Hampton couple has been identified as the winners of a $2 million Powerball ticket purchased at a New Hampton convenience store earlier this week.

The Iowa Lottery says Karla and Keith Elenz reported to the lottery headquarters in Clive Thursday afternoon to verify and claim their winnings from Monday night’s drawing. Both are employed at Precision of New Hampton, an auto-parts manufacturer.

The couple purchased the winning ticket at Casey’s at 615 North Linn Avenue in New Hampton. Karla and Keith’s lucky ticket matched the first five numbers, but missed the Powerball, still good for a $1 million prize. But, they also purchased the Power Play® option to multiply the prize to $2 million. The Elenz’ ticket came within one number of having at least a share of Monday night’s $26.8 million jackpot.

The New Hampton ticket was the only one in the country to win a $2 million prize in Monday night’s drawing.

Casey’s will receive a $2,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the $2 million-winning ticket.
