Charles City Police Department Offers Reminders for Snowmobilers

With almost seven inches of new snow falling on Charles City Friday, snowmobilers took advantage over the weekend.

However, it also has Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson reminding sled operators of various do’s and don’t in city limits.

Anderson adds that snowmobiles can not operate on state highways, which makes the Highway 18/Brantingham bridge off limits. Snowmobilers can cross on the Main Street Bridge, but, unfortunately, there’s no one official trail to get snowmobilers across town.

There’s also a new limit as to when snowmobiles can be out at night in Charles City. Anderson says his department received complaints of snowmobiles running as late as 3:45 a.m. Monday morning and alerts snowmobilers that City ordinance now limits snowmobile activity to a midnight cutoff every other night of the week.
