Resolutions for pay increases for Charles City fire department and public works unions are up for consideration at tonight’s City Council meeting.
Tentative agreements would give a 3% increase to employees in both groups for Fiscal Year 2023 and Fiscal Year 2024. There are currently two years remaining on the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the City and the Fire Department union and four years between the City and Public Works union, but each contract allows for re-opening of wage negotiations only.
The Council is also scheduled to consider a resolution to increase monthly payments from $100 a month to $500 a month for Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) training costs for uncertified officers. Newly hired uncertified officers must reimburse the City the ILEA costs if he or she chooses to leave the employment of the City within five years.
The City Council meeting starts at 6 p.m. in City Hall. The regular meeting was moved due to Monday’s national Martin Luther King holiday and a scheduling conflict Tuesday.
The meeting will largely be conducted via zoom, which is also available to the public. Citizens may attend in person, but you are asked to adhere to social distancing and wearing a mask if necessary.
