Chickasaw County Environmental Health Hits the Road to Sell Radon Test Kits

Radon testing kits are becoming more accessible in the New Hampton area within the next two weeks.

January is Radon Awareness Month and Chickasaw County Environmental Health Director Penny Andorf encourages homeowners to test for radon in the winter months because levels could be higher as snow cover trapps more of the naturally occurring odorless, tasteless gas underground.

Andorf says the EPA recommends action for radon mitigation if your home’s radon level reaches 4 picocuries (pCi) per liter or higher. She adds that radon levels can vary from house to house and there are no warning signs you could have a problem.

Andorf says the $10 radon testing kits are always available at the Environmental Health office in New Hampton, but for Radon Awareness Month, her department will be selling test kits at various locations throughout the county January 18th through January 26th.

You can see the complete list of locations on the Chickasaw County Public Health Facebook page.
