A special election to fill the vacancy of the District 1 Supervisor in Chickasaw County will be held Tuesday, March 1st.
Supervisor Rick Holthaus of Alta Vista passed away January 2nd due to illness, opening a seat at a time when the Legislative Service Agency (LSA) is in the midst of setting supervisor district boundaries based on the 2020 census. Chickasaw County Auditor Stephanie Mashek says the yet-to-be-set new District 1 will not apply to the upcoming special election.
That means the special election voting will consist of the following District 1 precincts: Chickasaw, Deerfield Washington 2, Jacksonville Utica and Washington 1. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Match 1st..
Elections Officer Laura Wickham notes the last day to file nomination papers with the auditor’s office is Friday, February 4th, with the auditor’s office open that day until 5 p.m.
Voter pre-registration deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, February 14th, unless postmarked on or before Monday, February 14th, which is also the deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed.
Voters may request an absentee ballot at the auditor’s office at any time. Voters may request and vote ballots at the auditor’s office until 5 p.m. on Monday, February 28th.
