Update: Four Candidates to Run for Open Chickasaw County District 1 Supervisor Seat

There will be at least four names on the ballot for the special election next month to fill the vacant District 1 seat on the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors.
The position came open in early January with the death of then-supervisor Rick Holthaus. Steven Breitbach was appointed temporary replacement for Holthaus and participated in his first supervisor’s meeting this past Monday.
Breitbach says he has been nominated to run for the full-time position by Chickasaw County Democrats. Breitbach says he brings strong leadership abilities to help the County tackle tough issues.

Prior to his appointment as temporary supervisor, Breitbach says he never held political office. Neith has Chickasaw County Republican challenger Mike Winter, who agrees the future of ambulance services tops the list of County issues.

Independents Larry Laures and David Tilkes have also filed nomination papers to run in the special election March 1st to see who will fill out the remainder of Holthaus’ term, which runs through December 31st, 2024. Tilkes also ran in 2020, when Holthaus was elected to the board.
Chickasaw County Elections Officer Laura Wickham reminds those wishing to run for the District 1 Supervisor seat that nomination papers must be filed with the auditor’s office in New Hampton by 5 p.m. this Friday, February 4th.
