ISU Extension Offers Free Tax Prep in Charles City, Osage

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is again providing free tax preparation services in north Iowa, including at their offices in Floyd, Mitchell, and Cerro Gordo counties.
Brenda Schmitt is an ISU Human Services Specialist in family finance and says they’ll do tax returns for individuals and families with annual income under $56,000.
Schmitt says their tax prep service is also available to the elderly, handicapped and those whose first language isn’t English. She says they provide basic tax services, noting they do not prepare returns involving farm income, Airbnb, Uber, Lyft, rental income or the buying or selling of property.
Schmitt says more volunteer tax preparers are always welcome.
Schmitt says she coordinates free tax prep services available at the ISU Extension offices in Mason City on Mondays, Charles City on Tuesdays, and Osage on Fridays. She also coordinates the program in Hampton and Spencer. Appointments are required.
