Voter Registration Deadline Approaching for Chickasaw County Supervisor Special Election

Five candidates have filed nomination papers to run in next month’s special election to fill out the term of District 1 Supervisor in Chickasaw County.

The position came open January 2nd with the death of Rick Holthaus after a battle with illness. On January 25th, Steven Breitbach was appointed temporary replacement for Holthaus to serve in that role until at least March 1st, when voters will head to the polls.

Breitbach has been nominated to run for the position full-time by Chickasaw County Democrats, while his neighbor, Mike Winter, has been tabbed as the Chickasaw County Republican candidate. Independents Mark Knoll, Larry Laures and David Tilkes have also filed nomination papers to run.

The winner of the special election will fill out the remainder of Holthaus’ term, which runs through December 31st, 2024.

Chickasaw County Elections Office Laura Wickham reminds voters that they must pre-register for the special election by  5 p.m. Monday, February 14th, unless postmarked on or before Monday, February 14th.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed is also February 14th, although voters may request an absentee ballot at the auditor’s office in the county courthouse in New Hampton at any time during business hours.

Voters may request and vote ballots at the auditor’s office until 5 p.m. on Monday, February 28th.
